Alberta Self-Employed Farmer

This stream is designed to allow experienced farm owners and operators who wish to own and operate a farm in Alberta. AINP and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) co-manages this stream, having the applicants to consult with both institutions prior to submission.

Applicants must be able to prove a Net worth of $500,000 CAD by demonstration authorised financial documents.
Applicants must be able to invest a minimum of $500,000 CAD of equity in a farming business in Alberta.
Applicants must be able prove that they have the desired education, training and work/management experience in farming through extensive paperwork.
Interested applicants must formulate a detailed business plan outlining how they intend to invest in the farming business in Alberta. This plan should extensively document how the applicant intends to utilize their investment.
Prove that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance the project.
ln-person interview to determine the applicant's eligibility is almost certain in all the applications.

Applications under this stream are on a first-come, first-served basis. Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development assesses the candidates before the application submission. The points -of-contact under this stream are Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF)
An exploratory visit by the applicant, to physically assess the farming conditions in Alberta, is highly recommended under this category of application.
An extensive paper-based application is mailed to AAF, (Yes you read it right), rather than AINP. Once the application is approved by AAF, its then forwarded to AINP for further assessment.
If AINP also approves the application, the province notifies the applicant regarding their provincial nomination and dispatches a formal nomination package through mail from AINP.
Once the applicant receives the formal nomination package, they have 6 months to submit the formal federal Permanent Residence application (paper-based) to the designated application center.
